Harriette Marlane Evans Ashdown went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Harriette was born on April 17, 1950, in New York City to Floyd T. Evans and Sylvia V. Rock Graff Evans. After graduating from Uintah High School in Vernal, Utah in 1969, she pursued her passions for art and cosmetology in Salt Lake City, eventually winning second place at a hair show for her work.

She married Sheldon Ashdown on January 26, 1974, and the couple spent many years in Marion, Montana. During her time there, Harriette was a pillar of the community, coaching gymnastics, basketball and softball, while also serving as the town’s barber. After returning to Salt Lake City in 1989, she became one of the first bakers for Maverick Country Store. In 1996, Sheldon and Harriette moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho, where she worked at the 3 Mile Truck Stop and dedicated many years to the Kootenai River Inn as a vault teller.

Harriette was known for her sharp wit, playful spirit and incredible artistic talents. She also loved music; there was always music playing. Whether she was baking homemade bread, homemade pizza or playing cards—where she earned the nickname “Card Shark”, she brought joy to those around her. Above all, her family was her greatest passion and she always put the needs of others before her own.
