Eva Mae “Tootie” Stephens, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 1, 2026, in the comfort of her cherished family home. Born on October 25, 1930, in the serene town of Moyie Springs, Idaho, Tootie was a beacon of warmth and love throughout her ninety-five years.
Tootie was the treasured daughter of Elmer and Mable Schroeder, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys and the importance of family bonds. She carried these values with her throughout her life, sharing them generously with her own family and every soul fortunate enough to cross her path.
On a sunlit day in Kootenai, Idaho, Eva married her soulmate, Earl, on August 23. Together, they wove a beautiful tapestry of love and laughter, nurturing a family that grew rich with shared memories over their 72 years of marriage. Earl preceded her in death, as did their beloved sons, Daniel and Edward, but their spirits remained an enduring source of strength and comfort to Tootie.
Tootie’s life was a testament to her boundless love and nurturing spirit. Her home was always filled with the comforting aroma of her baking and canning, a welcoming haven where her warm smile and generous hugs greeted all who entered. Tootie’s garden was her sanctuary, a vivid testament to her green thumb and her patience, much like the love she cultivated in her family and friendships. Her passion for camping and card games reflected her zest for life and her delight in shared adventures and companionship.
A proud member of the Eagles, Tootie found joy and purpose in her community, contributing her time and talents with the same grace and humility that characterized all her endeavors. Her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and a deeply rooted commitment to those she loved.
Tootie leaves behind a loving family, including her children, Julie, Michael, Patricia, and Timothy, who carry forward her legacy. Her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren are testament to a life well-lived, each one carrying a piece of her indomitable spirit and her radiant smile.
Tootie’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family and friends, yet her spirit remains vividly alive in the countless memories she gifted us. Her life was a celebration of love, and her memory will forever be a guiding light for those who knew her.
