June P. Edwards, 82, of Bonners Ferry, died Friday morning September 18 in the LCC in Sandpoint, ID after a brief illness. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 29, graveside at the Paradise Valley Cemetery.
She was born in Lewiston Idaho in 1927 to Carl and Helen Peterson of Ferdinand Id, an oil distributor and a music teacher. Her mother died when she was four years old and she was cared for by her father, her grandmother Peterson, who had immigrated from Sweden, and by her Aunt and Uncle.
She graduated high school in Coeur d'Alene in 1945, and graduated from Washington State College in 1949 with a Bachelors' degree in Nursing Education, her hospital training being at St. Luke’s Hospital in Spokane, WA. She worked as a Visiting Nurse in Spokane, married Phillip Miller and worked at the Wallace Hospital in Wallace, Idaho. She had two children, Peter and Judith. She and Phillip later divorced and she married Dr. Clifford J. Edwards in 1960.
They moved to Bonners Ferry where she worked in the local hospital as a surgical nurse and giving anesthesia, raised 4 children (Judy and Peter, and Mike Edwards and Karen Edwards Liebler), tended her large flower gardens, enjoyed her cats and dogs, played piano and organ at the Naples Church & South Hill Bible Church, and taught Bible study for years. In later years she served on the Restorium Advisory Board, and on the selection committee for Habitat for Humanity.
Widowed in 1996, she kept up her house and gardens for many years, enjoying reading and discussing gardening, politics, world events and religion. Her last two years she was homebound and cared for by her daughter Judy and several loving home health workers.
She is survived by Judy (Bonners Ferry), Peter (Duluth MN), Peter’s daughters Amber and Dena, Mike Edwards of Bellingham, WA, Karen (Nashville, TN) and her sons Andrew Liebler and Tegner Weiseth and his children Brinna and Jackson and Karen’s daughter Bergen Dachs and her daughter Faye Lee.
